Winfried Bruns

Prof. Dr. Winfried Bruns

Prof. Dr. Winfried Bruns is a German mathematician best known for his excellent works in commutative algebra, in particular, in combinatorial commutative algebra (lattice polytopes, Newton polyhedra, and their relations with commutative algebra, and algebraic geometry) as well as algebraic geometry (determinantal varieties and toric varieties). He also works on computational algebra.

According to his zbMATH profile, he has published at least 113 papers in mathematics since 1975 and has composed some very influential books in mathematics, co-authored by his supervisor, Prof. Dr. Udo Vetter (Determinantal rings), and his colleagues Prof. Dr. Jürgen Herzog (Cohen-Macaulay rings), Prof. Joseph Gubeladze (Polytopes, rings, and K-theory), and very recently, Aldo Conca, Claudiu Raicu, Matteo Varbaro (Determinants, Gröbner Bases and Cohomology).

Prof. Dr. Winfried Bruns is currently a professor emeritus at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Osnabrück.
