Whether you are looking for a way to learn how to play the daf, you have come to the right place.

On this page, I am going to explain my methods for the online Iranian daf lessons. Though my main method for teaching the daf is by ear, the daf notations are also used to assist the student to learn and remember the lessons more easily.

The daf is the large-sized Persian frame drum and one of the main Persian percussion instruments. For more, check my note on the daf Iranian frame drum.

The main daf style that I teach is the Sufi style though I also explain and teach the daf style based on the tonbak which is usually performed in Persian classical music.

The students of my online daf classes should have a reliable Internet connection, a computer with video chat facilities, and of course, a suitable daf.

Music courses online (for example, through Google Meet or Skype) have proven to be an excellent alternative to classroom teaching, especially during the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, my personal experience showed me that online lessons were effective enough to meet a student's needs. They are comfortable and economical.
